BYOD in 2025: Better Design, Management in Hot Demand

As it stands now, many employees are taking advantage of the bring your own device (BYOD) movement to help them increase their productivity. With continued device enhancements, like the iPad Air and predicted iPad Pro for business, this employee preference is only expected to increase. But this may be less of an elective approach for employees in the future. Gartner predicts that by 2017, half of employers will require employees to supply their own mobile device at work. According to a global survey of CIOs by Gartner’s Executive Programs, 38% of employers plan to stop providing smartphones and other mobile devices to workers by 2016.
These trends bode major changes for BYOD programs and organizational strategies. For instance, as David Willis, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner notes in a press release for the study, the business case for BYOD needs to be better assessed by executives in most companies. Most business leaders don’t fully appreciate the business benefits of BYOD and often don’t have a clearly defined and quantifiable goal for these programs, says Willis.
