Whether your organization buys, builds, or takes a hybrid approach to providing enterprise mobile apps to employees, it’s important for administrators to choose the right apps for your company's enterprise app store. Enterprise apps should be judged based on potential productivity gains that can be obtained by deploying the app. Changes in the speed of execution, process improvements, heightened collaboration between team members, and the ability to act on real-time data are among the metrics that can be used to measure and quantify potential productivity gains. In addition, employees can and should provide input on the types of features and functionality they’re seeking from specific enterprise apps. Administrators can then align these to apps that are either being developed or evaluated in the market.

These capabilities may include the ability to access data from other mobile or desktop apps (e.g. CRM, ERP, HR). Employee feedback generated from surveys and other forums can also provide insights into workflow processes that can be automated or improved upon through the development or deployment of third-party apps. Choosing the right apps for your enterprise app store is often more a matter of identifying the common tasks that employees are looking to tackle rather than the apps themselves. Canvassing employee work teams can help IT administrators identify the types of jobs that employees are looking to simplify and accomplish using their mobile devices. Such tasks may include the ability to collaborate more easily with team members on projects or the ability for employees to track their time across individual projects.

The apps that are ultimately selected for your enterprise app store should also be aligned with the organization’s top goals. If the company’s short-term goals are to improve time-to-market, customer satisfaction, or revenue growth, the apps that are either developed or selected for the enterprise app store should help support these objectives since employees will be striving to help their organizations achieve these targets.
