This is the first completely new product to come out of Apple in about 5 years, the last being the iPad. The Apple Watch is an interesting piece of technology and will be even more interesting to see how the mass market responds to both it’s style and capabilities.
Will it be loved or hated? I doubt hated, but it probably won’t appeal to everyone. And even if you like the looks of it, does it bring enough value to your life for it’s $350-$1000 price tag? Like the first iPhone, it will evolve and get better and more useful over time. What about it’s usefulness for business purposes? Software companies are building and demoing companion apps that will work on the Watch to present and track information on that small screen. Most organizations are recently getting their heads around how to utilize mobile apps for business so this seems like a likely direction. I'm curious to see if the Apple Watch is considered a ‘mobile device’? You certainly take it with you everywhere.
Just like mobile application management
(MAM®) consists of an Enterprise App Store and a way to manage the lifecycle of enterprise mobile apps, the same will be needed for any enterprise apps that are used on the Watch. Considering the sensitive data in the apps, they must to be secured, deployed, monitored and measured (and probably signed for that matter).
Unlike smartphones, not everyone will have an Apple Watch, so the general adoption of enterprise Watch Apps might still be a ways away. I guess we’ll just have to ‘watch out’ and see what happens.
