A New Way to Empower Mobile Workers

App Management

The April 2011 issue of CFO Magazine article A New Way to Empower Mobile Workers shows how corporate app stores bring an "App Store" like distribution model to mobile employees.

ROI is the key. The article features examples of "high value" apps from companies including Genentech and Kraft Foods. The cost of building "in-house" apps has decreased significantly from three years ago when projects had "the same economics as traditional IT projects, meaning the software could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and take 12 to 18 months to develop". Now, with better tools from Apple (Xcode environment) and Google, the costs have changed massively. One example given was a Genentech app that took just six weeks and cost $13,000.

And, with mobile application management (MAM) solutions such as Apperian's EASE solution, the in-house apps can be secured, deployed, and managed using an "App Catalog" customized to the company.
