7 DevOps Drinks to Ring in the New Year

Looking for that perfect toast to ring in the DevOps New Year? Well, today's your lucky day. We at XebiaLabs pulled together some tasty drink recipes and gave them new names to reflect our love of DevOps and software delivery.

Scrum and Coke

Perfect for consuming in small increments

A shot of light rum…or dark

Add some Coke, or your cola of choice…or whatever.

Add lime juice if you want. It’s totally cool with changes. Just deliver it quickly to guests.

Serves – One, but you can rapidly iterate for gatherings.

XebiaLabs Zinger

For enterprise-class fun

1 (6 ounce) can frozen limeade concentrate

6 fluid ounces tequila

3 fluid ounces triple sec

Directions – Fill blender with crushed ice. Pour in limeade concentrate, tequila, and triple sec. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses. Top with a maraschino cherry garnish (optional).

Serves – About 4 people, but easily scales up for release celebrations.

Release on the Rocks

A drink that’s sure to speed recovery

Fill a glass with ice

Add a shot of vodka

Pour in a few ounces of lemonade-flavored Sparkling ICE brand drink (or carbonated lemon-flavored drink of your choice)

Add a splash of Cointreau

Serves – One. This is not a drink you should have often.

Because peaches are sweeter than breaches

Pour some champagne into a champagne flute…like, I don’t know, halfway

Add orange juice to taste

Add a splash of Peach schnapps

Serves – One. Mix up some more and share with the security team. Serve guests from right to left.

Bailey’s Irish Cloud

Quickly lifts and shifts from kitchen to recliner

Cupa hot java

Add a shot of Bailey’s Irish Crème

Top with whipped cream

Serves – Just one, but you can easily spin up more.

The Hot Fix (Non-alcoholic)

A low-risk beverage that should bring you great relief

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

3/4 cup white sugar

1 pinch salt

1/3 cup boiling water

3 1/2 cups milk

3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup half-and-half cream

Egg nog (optional)

Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Combine cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring mixture to an easy boil while stirring. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Don’t scorch! Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but don’t boil! Remove from heat. Add vanilla. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.

Optional: Add a splash of eggnog and a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Serves – Four. Yay!

The Build Breaker

A warm and cozy Swedish Glögg (mulled wine) that’s like a big hug when you’re feeling down. But first, puppies and kittens:

1 orange peel
2 cinnamon sticks
7 cloves
3 star anise
1 tsp whole cardamom pods
1/2 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
1 bottle red wine (preferably a full-bodied wine)
1/2 cup cognac (optional)

For serving (optional):

Blanched almonds

In a large pot, combine the orange peel, spices, sugar, and water, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 25 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

Once cool, remove the orange peel and spices. Add the red wine to the sugar mixture in the pot, and then slowly add the cognac to taste. Return the pot to the stove, and slowly warm it up over low heat. If you would like, you can add additional sugar to taste (you can also add in orange peel and cinnamon sticks here just for the look!). Serve warm with a few blanched almonds and raisins in small cups and enjoy!

Serves – Not sure, but it sounds like you can serve quite a few people if the cups are small enough.

***Happy New Year from XebiaLabs!***
