Their shared experiences underscore a crucial truth: Diversity in tech leads to more innovative solutions. By bringing varied perspectives and problem-solving approaches, women in engineering and product management are instrumental in driving the AI-powered innovations that Digital.ai delivers to enterprise organizations. Here’s what they had to say when asked about their careers, advice, and passion for how they are leading the way in their field:
What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering, and how did you get started?
“It was a spontaneous move at first, and I wanted to try something new. So, I started to learn coding (Javascript and PHP languages) in a coding academy, where I had zero knowledge of programming. It was challenging, but I had a lot of fun doing it. I then realized that coding allowed me to develop my problem-solving and creativity skills. So I wanted to keep learning and continue. That’s why I’m here!” – Aistė Klusaitė
“There are always certain people who inspire us to become a better version of ourselves. One such person was my professor in school. He had a unique ability to distill very complex concepts into simple and understandable nuggets, which made his class very popular. I was instantly drawn into this attribute, which made him stand out clearly amongst the other professors. He credited his engineering background for this life skill – the art of making complex things simple and also for shaping the way he saw the world. This was the initial spark that set my curiosity into the engineering domain; having perused the life of an engineer, I can truly attest to what my school professor said: ‘engineering is not a degree; it’s a life skill.’” – Ishwarya Varadarajan
What excites you most about your role at Digital.ai?
“As a test engineer, I am thrilled about the chance to help create dependable, high-quality, and user-friendly products. One of the most fascinating aspects of working as a test engineer is the challenge of recognizing problems and coming up with creative solutions. Another thing that truly excites me is working in cross-functional teams with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders. I have a chance to collaborate and build rapport with various people.” – Gomathy Manogari
“The impact. I work in an environment where innovation meets execution, and I get to be at the center of it. As a Technical Product Manager in infrastructure for mobile devices, I help ensure our solution is robust, scalable, and ready for the future. What drives me most is seeing the real value of my work – how my decisions directly impact performance, security, and the user experience for our customers. Knowing that what I do makes a difference is both thrilling and rewarding.” – May Azulay
How do you see the impact of your work shaping the future of technology?
“The current assignment and AI needs are driving me to learn new things and build my technical expertise. Back when I joined Digital.ai as a backend developer with skills focused only on core development and little to minimal knowledge or experience in DevOps, Cloud, and Containerization. Over the years, I have found myself well-equipped with these skills through my experience and learning, which I gained from my day-to-day work and deliverables.” – Ishwarya Surendrababu
“Infrastructure is what keeps everything running behind the scenes, and I love being part of that foundation. The work I do – optimizing mobile device infrastructure and improving testing environments – helps create more reliable and scalable systems. Technology is constantly evolving, and I enjoy the challenge of finding better, more efficient ways to support that growth. In the world of software delivery, a strong product vision is just as critical as the technology itself. As a Product Manager, I get to explore market trends, anticipate future needs, and translate them into actionable plans. Understanding where technology is headed and making strategic decisions to support that evolution is what makes this role so exciting.” – May Azulay
What advice would you give to other women looking to build a career in engineering?
“Be patient and focus on understanding the system, then start contributing wherever possible. You don’t have to be dependent on technical or functional peers. Try to understand the code, system, functionality, and user needs by exploring on your own with the access you have to the code/documents.” – Ishwarya Surendrababu
“Do not give up when the going gets tough, or you are not hitting the mark. Yes, it could be frustrating; sometimes, it can take some time, but nothing feels better than overcoming a challenge and seeing yourself grow.” – Aistė Klusaitė
“Establish your short-term and long-term professional objectives early on, then concentrate on identifying the best course of action and seek mentors to help you reach them. Believe in your ability to learn and grow. Be adaptable and never hesitate to seek assistance.” – Gomathy Manogari
“I started my career with no technical background at all, and today, I’m leading the most technical solution under our product. So don’t be afraid to explore new areas, even if they seem far from what you initially thought you could do! The most exciting opportunities often come from unexpected directions. Tech is constantly evolving, and your ability to adapt and step into unfamiliar territories will set you apart. Whether it’s diving into a new technology, shifting roles, or taking on a challenge outside your comfort zone – embrace the unknown. Growth happens when you dare to explore.” – May Azulay
“My advice isn’t drawn from any scriptures or books but from my personal experience. Do not believe the myth that women must settle down for being the second best in their career, or that their first priority should be their husband’s career progression and success, kids’ educational development, mother-in-law’s spiritual pursuits, husband’s distant cousin’s rants, and so on. By compartmentalizing various facets of life and allocating sufficient time, women can adequately balance the demands of work while also handling their other responsibilities admirably. Read inspirational books about people like Mrs. Indra Nooyi who have been there and done that, maintain a positive outlook towards life, and realize that the person you are most responsible for is yourself.” – Ishwarya Varadarajan
