CollabNet Hits Stride for 2016

Enterprise Agile Planning

Just more than a year ago I was presented with the opportunity to assume the role of CEO of CollabNet, one of the early pioneers in distributed software collaboration for the enterprise. As the creator of Subversion, the company has deep roots in open source, cloud, Agile and DevOps management. Hence the name, CollabNet has been connecting people, tools and processes together as few other companies can. And, we do it at scale, with our largest customer implementation of TeamForge exceeding 85,000 users.

As the software delivery industry has undergone swift and dramatic change, many of the things CollabNet stands for – integrating open source, offering flexibility and choice, and keeping track of all activities with complete visibility – have made CollabNet as attractive today as ever. Evidence of this can be seen in how we closed out 2015, with strong adoption and growing demand for our innovative TeamForge platform that helps large, complex Enterprises and Government organizations build and manage their enterprise-scale Agile and DevOps initiatives.

With the mid-2015 launch of TeamForge 8.1, and the build-out of our outstanding executive management team, we continued to see strong sales and adoption of the platform as organizations increasingly adopt a variety of tools and methodologies. CollabNet’s ability to address the reality of today’s fast-paced and constantly changing software delivery world helped the company win customers against the largest competitors in the industry, on down to point solutions that lack the depth and breadth enterprise organizations need.

Looking ahead to 2016, I see more mega-trends taking shape that bode well for CollabNet and further growth, including:

  • The Containerization of the Data Center. More security and functional discipline will lead to more enterprise developing in the cloud. This is a trend we support and one we will work to enable through technical innovation during the coming year.

  • Continued Heterogeneity Environments: From open source and DevOps to the rise of Micro-services, more tools and processes will be used to meet the specific needs of the software delivery organization. This trend meets CollabNet’s strongest strengths – our ability to integrate tools and processes across a growing set of toolchains and deployment strategies.

  • The rise of Multi-tenant Software Delivery: As integration and security improve, we see growing acceptance of public and private clouds, on premise and SaaS models converging into a single development and delivery platform. This too is something CollabNet will support during the coming year and beyond.

Having the chance to lead CollabNet into its next chapter of growth and innovation is one of the most exciting and compelling opportunities of my career. While there is constant software industry change, and hype-cycle trends that may be tempting to leverage, I can assure you of one thing – CollabNet will continue to remain true to its core value and strengths. Building CollabNet into a global software delivery powerhouse will require fresh thinking and ideas for sure. But it is the heritage and long-earned success of CollabNet that will serve as the foundation for future success. I hope you agree, and would welcome your thoughts as we move full steam-ahead into 2016.
