At root, organizations are trying to make life easier; they are looking to speed up their software release process with the aim of getting new and updated features into customer hands in timely fashion. Hopefully at less cost, hopefully with less complications. In a typical release scenario we often see today, automation is not central to the process. Time slows to a crawl, delayed by miscommunications between Dev, QA, Ops and the Business, which unfortunately can introduce fly in the ointment. And breed errors.
